Abstract
This study examined the changes of brain, temporalis muscle, and rectal temperature during hypothermia and forebrain ischemia in rats. Ischemia was induced by bilateral common carotid artery occlusion.
@ES This results were as follows
@EN 1) Rectal temperature changed faster than both brain and temporalis mulscle during hypothermia and revarming. Rectal temperature could not an adequate index of brain temperature. Temporalis temperature was a better estimate of brain
temperature.
2) When rectal temperature was held constant, brain temperature tended to fall gradually during forebrain ischemia. So, themperature gradient was found to exist between brain and rectal tmperature. Externally monitored head (temporalis muscle)
temperature closely reflected brain temperature.
